What Makes for a Good Kettlebell?

  • The Finish - Finish should be smooth and consistent but not slick. No rough edges or graininess in the finish. No ridges or edges. Epoxy finishes can easily chip.

  • The Handle - Handle should be cast with the bell. No welding. A thicker handle is good for grip work and for doing floor kettlebell exercises, such as the Renegade Row and KB Pushup. A wider handle on the women’s bell makes bottoms up drills possible. No ridges in handle and the finish should be smooth but not slick. Epoxy finishes can easily chip. A slightly wider handle allows for more space for two handed drills.

  • The Base - A wider base is good for floor exercises, such as the Renegade Row and KB Pushup.
